Programmet inrättades 1999 av Stiftelsen Riksbankens Information om priser och stipendier där lärosätet har möjlighet att nominera ett begränsat antal kandidater. Central handläggning sker vid Universitetsledningens Stab (ULS) och i vissa fall vid fakultetskanslierna. Pro Futura Scientia är en av de mest ambitiösa satsningar som gjorts för att främja lovande forskare tidigt i karriären och för att knyta dem till internationell spetsforskning. Under senare år har RJ och SCAS stärkt programmet ytterligare. I detta sammanhang ges, under The post-doctoral programme for leading research, Pro Futura Scientia, provides promising young European researchers financing for independent research. The 15 participants of the 2019-2020 programme have also been offered a leadership programme, Leadership in Academia, given by Karolinska Institutet in collaboration with Riksbankens Jubileumsfond (the Swedish Foundation for Humanities and In 1999, Pro Futura Scientia was established by the Swedish Foundation for Humanities and Social Sciences (RJ) and the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study (SCAS). To date, a total of 36 prominenent young researchers have been accepted and offered optimal conditions to pursue research and develop their competence for a period of five years.

The Pro Futura Scientia Programme, hosted by the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study in Uppsala and funded by Riksbankens Jubileumsfond, is a cutting-edge research programme for promising early-career scholars in the humanities and social sciences. The CRASSH ProFutura fellowship is a three-year research fellowship offered in collaboration with the Swedish Collegium of Advanced Study (SCAS) in Uppsala and generously funded by the Stiftelsen Riksbankens Jubileumsfond (RJ).
